The process of converting a regular vehicle into a dream adventure van is a massive process, which naturally kicks out a lot of questions! We have designed the FAQ’s section of our website to try and answer the questions we get asked by potential customers. Naturally, the team at Tribe are always on hand to answer your questions if you don’t find the information you are looking for on this page!

How do I work out the price of a Tribe conversion?2023-04-04T20:32:28+01:00

Put quite simply, it is all there in black and white!

Our conversions all start with the ‘West Edition’ base conversion, a really high spec starting point. We don’t offer a ‘bronze/silver/gold’ type conversion, so we like to start at GOLD and then you have the option of adding more options to it from there.

I would like something different to your ‘standard’ conversions, can you still help?2021-11-09T18:27:41+00:00

We are always ready for a new project and love nothing more than talking about your camper van dreams. Whether you have a few ideas you’d like us to encompass into a conversion, or a bigger idea in your mind of what you would like, then we are always ready to discuss these ideas and come up with a plan that suits you and your needs.

We will work with you to bring your ideas to life, by talking through what you need in order to come up with a conversion plan that is a perfect fit for your family and for your adventures.

I already have a Campervan, but would like some things changed?2021-11-09T18:09:38+00:00

We are able to retrofit an array of accessories to your vehicle, whether you are looking for wheels, suspension, paintwork or even upholstery, there is a whole host of things that can be done to an already existing campervan, to give it a new lease of life.

Are your Campervans built ‘in-house’?2022-03-03T18:50:12+00:00

Absolutely. When buying from Tribe Campers you are buying something we have built with our own hands, in our workshop in Lincolnshire. We are proud to say that everything is built in-house, from our bespoke furniture set up to our upholstery. We source the best and most reputable parts from a trusted list of suppliers, so we can assure you that everything in your van is built to the highest of quality.

From time to time we might have a vehicle for sale that we have received in part-exchange, that isn’t a ‘Tribe Build’, but we will always be transparent if this is the case and ensure every detail has been checked through with a fine tooth comb and meets our high standards before it is handed over to a customer.

We have some overflow facilities that we use from time to time when deadlines are tight, such as additional upholsterers or car garages for suspension work. These are all people we have worked with for some time, with quality and established industry reputations. We put our name in their hands, so (much like the parts we source) we do our due diligence!

Do you offer insurance options for the van once converted?2022-03-03T18:47:58+00:00

We have been referring customers to Safeguard for over 2 years & the feedback we get is really great. They are a specialist insurer, who know the conversion market inside and out.

If you would like to know more, please get in touch with a member of the Tribe team, who will be able to point you in the right direction.

Do Tribe source base vehicles or can I provide my own?2021-10-13T10:32:43+01:00

The most important part of a campervan build is sourcing the right base vehicle for you. We can either work with a van you supply, or we can source the vehicle on your behalf. We work alongside your requirements for mileage, condition and budget to find the best vehicle for your conversion.

Do Tribe use high quality components in the build?2021-11-09T18:11:08+00:00

Where possible Tribe Campers utilise the industries available, fully approved components. Whether you are talking about a bed, roof or perhaps swivel seats, the focus is ALWAYS on quality and safety. Safety is Tribe’s main focus & thankfully our suppliers offer some of the most visually pleasing and safety focused product options.

The Roof

The Aurora roof is produced by Skyline Roofs in Somerset, UK. Benefiting from a latch down (strapless) locking system, railed canvas application, large scenic canvas, a low profile roof (Cad designed to the body) and a one piece design. A fully TUV approved roof with a 5 year warranty. UK market leaders in Safety and with Full TUV Approval for their T5/6 roofs, Skyline are also ISO9001 rated.

The Rear Seats / Bed

The rear seating and bed system in all Tribe builds utilise the SCOPEMA RIB Altair 112. Made in France we firmly believe this is one of the best options available anywhere in Europe.

The benchseat easily transforms in sleeping with unlocking handle.
The curved sitting and backrest turns inside to obtain a flat sleeping.
Integrated headrests (adjustable height)
Integrated 3D matress pad for a more comfortable nights sleep.
Top Tether Isofix system, integrated into the seat.

We fit the RIB beds with a Kiravans RIB bed fitting kit. The Kiravans RIB Seat fitting system has been pull tested with a 112cm RIB seat, in-vehicle, to the latest EC safety standards at STATUS Lab and witnessed by TUV Deutschland. Note: The Kiravans system has not been homologated by UTAC or TUV. It will not be possible to get your vehicle homologated in France or Germany with this system.

The Front Seats / Swivel Seats

When fitting swivel seats there are 2 options, single seats or double seats. A lot of our sourced vehicles come with VW factory installed swivel seats which is naturally very high quality, but when we need to retrofit swivel functionality to existing seats we want to ensure we use the highest quality components available.

For double seats, we fit the Kiravans Double Seat Swivel system. The Kiravans double seat swivel has passed all the requirements of TUV Deutschland. This involved ‘in-vehicle’ pull testing and a SLED test in Germany. In the UK it has passed seat belt anchorage safety tests conducted by STATUS (The Specialist Testing Facility at Manchester Met Uni) using a pull test on a specialist test rig to EC Directive 76/115/EEC as amended by 2005/41/EEC. Kiravans are an ISO 9001 approved company which ensures that these swivels are manufactured in a similarly approved facility.

For single seat swivels, we utilise the SCOPEMA RIB brand again, due to the high quality nature of these products. The swivel range we use have achieved European TUV safety approval.

What are the different base vehicle options available?2021-11-09T18:11:13+00:00

At Tribe Campers we specialise in converting Volkswagen Transporters, ranging from T5, T6 and T6.1. Within this range of vehicles there are various levels of specification; Startline and Highline, which will bring different levels of functionality. Depending on your needs, its best to source a base vehicle that has a suitable specification, so that your conversion can be applied to the best foundations.

Is the vehicle registered as a motor home or camper van once completed?2021-11-09T18:11:22+00:00

If you are starting with a VW Transporter base vehicle, the vehicle starts life as a ‘Van With Side Windows’ – Usually either registered as a 2 seat vehicle or 3 seat vehicle.

Once we complete the process of modifying your van, we send off a full breakdown to the DVLA including photographs and a spec breakdown of all of the contents of the conversion. We also ask the DVLA to amend the number of passenger seats accordingly (usually to either 4 or 5 seats!)

The vehicle remains as a ‘Van With Side Windows’ on the V5 registration document, but with the updated number of passenger seats which will be shown when your V5 is returned to you from the DVLA.
